It’s taken me the guts of three years to write my first novel and it’s not finished yet. I say ‘first’ as I have a raft of ideas for others but at three years a pop it may take a while to get them done. That said, after reading this guys blog post, I think the next one will be much quicker….
Traditional publishing used to advocate one every two years, but in our ever quickening world that seems to have moved up to one a year. I was thinking of being really radical and aiming for six months…. that is, until I read this… and I quote;
“I did (not counting comments on web sites)
1,281,675 original words in the last twelve months.”
Which equates to: twelve novels and over thirty short stories and three non-fiction books. All the novels are in the general 40,000 to 55,000 word range. The short stories make up the rest of the fiction word count.
That sort of puts my ‘being radical’ in the shade, big time, and has given me a bit of a kick up the rear end. Now I don’t intend to try and attempt anything on this level, this guy has definitely got something I don’t. But nonetheless, it shows what can be done when one puts ones mind to it.
